Window Tinting FAQs
If you are considering window tinting for your vehicle, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the process so you know exactly what it entails and its benefits. Take a look at our answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding window tinting so you can make a fully informed decision.
How long does window tinting take to dry?
After a window is tinted, the vehicle can be driven immediately. However, it takes 24 hours for the window tint to cure fully, so we would recommend that you do not use your windows during that time. In fact, it’s recommended that you allow 48 – 72 hours before operating the windows so that there is plenty of time for the adhesive to cure properly. It’s worth noting that the window film can take a while longer to dry out and cure in the winter than the summer season due to the temperatures.
How long does the overall process of window tinting take?
Depending on how much glass needs tinting, the length of time this process takes can vary – this can be advised when receiving a quote.
How do I clean windows which have been tinted?
During the window tinting process, a specialist window film is applied to the inside surface of the glass. This means that the window can be cleaned with standard window cleaning agent and a soft microfibre cloth as normal, but you must avoid any harsh products that may scratch the film.
Will window tinting control the temperature inside my vehicle?
Yes, window film can block out a high percentage of heat and light, helping to keep the interior of the vehicle stay cool.
Does window tinting reduce glare and UV rays?
Yes, window tinting is a highly effective way of reducing any glare caused by the sun while maintaining visibility through the glass.
While there is no prevention against fading completely, window tinting helps to protect the interior of the car and your belongings from fading as it blocks out a considerable amount of light and heat, depending on the type of film you choose.
What are the UK window tinting laws?
Due to safety reasons, government guidelines state that the front windscreen and front side windows must let in a minimum of 75% of light through for vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later, and the front windscreens on vehicles first used before this date must let at least 70% of light through.
All cars nowadays have slightly tinted glass as standard throughout, and by applying even a light tint film to the front side windows of your vehicle, this will omit some light and will not allow 75% of light through, rendering it illegal. As such, and to save any confusion, we don’t tint any front windows.

Does window tinting increase the security of my car?
The specialist film used for tinted windscreens will hold the glass in place should it shatter when hit.
